Thank you again Jack for a very informative Talking to America and that we had a couple of great ladies of color who stood up for what was right and always should be. Darn it all, why should color matter so much? It sure doesn't to me.
I think you're correct, Johnson very much contributed to the eventual failure of Reconstruction. I didn't mention in this article that Jennings' lawyer was Chester Arthur, who was arguing his first case. Arthur apparently didn't learn much because he was to become one of the mediocre presidents under whom we continued to slide toward racial injustice.

Civil Rights are in the crosshairs again this election cycle. We all need to get out the vote and make sure the Dems are successful.
I have submitted this to a few of my fav places:
South Pacific by Rogers and Hammerstein - these lyrics keep playing in my head:
You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught from year to year,
It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear—
You’ve got to be carefully taught!
You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a different shade—
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate—
And still going on around the world.
Great article - Thank you JK
I blame a lot on Andrew Johnson....what do you think Jack?

So now it's time for Kamala! Rosa Parks and Elizabeth Jennings have done their part.
Thanks, Jack, I love learning from you.
