Did you guys also know the Roanoke Lifesaving Crew also helped to start Winston Salem NC Rescue squad which sadly no longer exists today but you can look up the video with the history on YouTube
Many squads that have “Life Saving Crew” as their name were organized by Mr. Wise. He also organized crews in Canada. In the 80s snow shoes were on display in the RLSC crew hall that had been gifted to him.
Thanks, Lloyd. Fire departments are usually called by that term everywhere. EMS units could be "rescue," "first aid," "ambulance" or, as you say, "live saving." In the Midwest and where I grew up in the Rochester, NY area we referred to the "fire hall." Other places, they call it a "station."
Jack knows of what he speaks. He was on the EMT squad that assisted at my home twice on the same day. He serves as well as he writes! Thanks, Jack.
Great article Jack and thank you for your many years of volunteer service. Mr. Wise would be proud.
Another great story by Jack, amazing what one special, thoughtful person , Julian Wise, can accomplish

Interesting, Sam. I didn't know that, but I was aware that Julian Wise either inspired or helped organize quite a few squads.
