We all have our brushes with history, large or small. Sometimes they’re instructive. Back in the 1980s, while spending a summer in rural upstate New York, I attended a circus. It was the epitome of rinky-dink, a tiny big top in a hayfield with some bleachers. One ring.
Great to hear from you, Mike. I saw your mother at a juggling convention at SUNY Purchase around this same time. She took great pride in your show-business success, but she did mention that she wished you didn't drink coffee. Bad for the nerves.
She was right about the massive amounts of coffee i use to drink. Ive cut down to a cup in the morning and thats it. That little show you saw my Mom in was actually owned by a good friend of hers. I forgot his name but he was a Circus fan and my Mom and Dad wanted to help him out. That was pretty much at the end of her career. Once again thanks for the nice article. All the best to you.............Mike
Wow! Quite interesting. Just curious where that might have been? I’m sure not many people would take the time to research such a performance no matter how good it was. Thanks again Jack.
Well Jack, I do remember your own juggling forays during that time period. Your coup-de-grace was balancing on a lose rope tied between two trees and juggling on one leg. Fabulous! I don't remember if you were wearing high heels though. Great article.
What an interesting article! And a good lesson — always do your best no matter how important the occasion ! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Liz. Another rule that jugglers know is, you'll always drop a ball now and then. Just pretend it was part of the show.
beautiful vignette. Love the image behind the tent.
Thanks Grace. So much of the creative work is creating memories.
Another moving and informing piece. Thanks again, Jack.
Im Lotties Son Mike. Thank you so much for this. Its beautiful and much appreciated. All the best to you. I will be sharing this.

Loved this one Jack. It's amazing how you have such knowledge of history and happy to be a part of it all. Thank you

Tom it was in the vicinity of Gardiner, NY, which, for real upstaters is not upstate at all, but, as Einstein said, it's all relative.
😂😂
