Happy July 4th Jack (and Joy). As usual, you have clarified our current national dilemma and offered a glimmer of hope. Overcoming the MAGA Cult will not be easy, but it will get done.
Thomas Paine said, "Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph." Keep the faith, and have a great one!
Thanks for that enlightening perspective, Jack. Those young revolutionaries were naively brilliant. We could use some of that today…youth that is committed, courageous and clever.
Jack, this is one of your best! The difference in age of our leaders back then and now is shocking and yes, money rules. I shake my head knowing that my age limits my urge to do something illegal to bust up the current regime, at least I can vote.
So we'll said, Jack. Especially during the "collapse" of the country's political system, integrity, compassion, fiscal responsibility, and so forth. Younger representatives may, indeed, be required; although given the materialism, briberies so tempting....and the wrinkly old thumbs of the established political and corporate beasts....well, I have no hope anymore. Obama was my last. People compare this struggle to the Fall Of Rome as if THAT really explains or lessens the horror.
Of the three noted virtues --faith, hope, and charity -- hope is the most elusive. Is it a mood, dependent on circumstances and my ever-changing state of mind? Or is it a willed determination required not by political circumstances but by the inevitability of loss and death? Is it a tool, a weapon, or an illusion? I wish I knew. One thing we know, we're all in this together and it won't last forever.

Fear of the future or faith in the future - which side are you on?
Thanks, Jack!

Agree. The future belongs to them.

I was inspired seeing so many young people participating in Rhinebeck and around the country on NO KINGS DAY.
It may be hard to celebrate today as an elderly person but I will be drawn to the youth and their Joy.
Happy 4th Jack!

Tell me I'm wrong, misguided. Cynical...please.

Thanks Jack. Happy 7/4 to you.
